HEPATITIS

WHAT IS HEPATITIS

Hepatitis is an inflammatory condition of the Liver. (inflammation is tissue reaction to injury or assault ). The Liver is like a Chemical laboratory in the body. It can heal itself to a reasonable degree when assaulted by injury or biochemical agents. However, the commonest cause of hepatitis is viral agents which unfortunately do not respond easily to antibiotics or antimicrobials. So, effective healing rests on boosting & sustaining immunity (body's ability to fight infections). This is where supplement comes in.

Hepatitis A, B, C, D E, etc, are different groups explaining peculiar causes, routes of transmission & prognosis.

Hospital attention is always necessary to identify the causative agent & ascertain the level of damage.

It is worthy of note that victims may live a healthy normal life with the virus for as long as the immune system remains intact.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is an infectious disease caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It affects the liver. It can cause both acute and chronic infections.

Many people have no symptoms during the initial infection. Some develop a rapid onset of sickness with vomiting, yellow skin, feeling tired, dark urine and abdominal pain.

Most of those with chronic disease have no symptoms.

The virus is transmitted by exposure to infectious blood or body fluids and sexual intercourse.

Other risk factors include blood transfusions, dialysis, living with an infected person, tattooing and acupuncture.

The hepatitis B viruses cannot be spread by holding hands, sharing eating utensils, kissing, hugging.

Hospital attention is necessary to identify the causative agent & ascertain the level of damage.

Victims may live a healthy normal life after management.

How to relieve symptoms and prevent the spread of hepatitis B virus:

Slow down: Reduce your activity to match your energy. You don’t have to stay in bed, but listen to your body. Slow down when you are tired. If you are feeling tired at work, try to reduce your workload.

Avoid strenuous exercise: As you start to feel better, slowly go back to your regular activities. If you try to go back to your regular pace too soon, you may get sick again.

Drink plenty of water: It is important to keep your body well-hydrated when you have hepatitis B, especially if you have been vomiting. If you can tolerate them, fruit juices are good choices because they provide extra calories. Same thing for soft drinks, as they can help replace essential minerals (electrolytes) that are lost during vomiting.

Avoid alcohol and drugs: Hepatitis makes it hard for your liver to process drugs and alcohol. If you take drugs (prescription or illegal) or drink alcohol when you have hepatitis, their effects may be more powerful and may last longer. They also can make liver damage worse. If you are taking prescription medicines, your doctor may tell you to stop using them until your liver has had time to heal. Don’t stop taking the medicines unless your doctor has told you to do so. Check with your doctor before taking any over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products and painkillers.

Control itching: People who have hepatitis sometimes have itchy skin. You can control itching by keeping cool and out of the sun, wearing cotton clothing.
